Stephen, you did it again. Like a slap on a new born baby's bottom to help bring in that breath of Life. In this case, with your words and attention to what is obvious: the awesome power of within. Compassion vs. Pity! wow. I would have never thought to pit those two together. Alicia.
Many people make this mistake - that compassion is a feeling. Compassion is another word for our original nature, Shen. Compassion has a powerful healing influence or better said, " to set thing aright." It does so because it is the only permanent power in the universe, and at the core of everything there is only Shen. Pity on the other hand is a temporary feeling that one feels for another. When compassion arises there is no other; just Shen. Pity implies separation, and ego indulgence - "my situation is better than yours." How can we help anyone with this in mind?
