Open Your Roots

Look at your feet. You’ll probably find five toes on the left foot and five toes on the right. Wiggle those digits and spread them wide. It might feel liberating or it might feel a bit straining (especially if you haven’t stretched your toes in a while). Now, appreciate the design of your body; there is an intention for how we are made. Our toes, each significant, separate to allow us to grip the ground, spring our bodies into motion, and help us stand still and straight.

However, whether for fashion, fitness, hygiene or comfort, we put our feet into shoes forcing our toes to squeeze in and act as one unit, like a hoof.  The foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles. One fourth (1/4) of all the bones in the human body are down in your feet. When these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of the body. According to foot.com three out of four Americans experience serious foot problems in their lifetime – like plantar fasciitis, bunions and hammer toes.
One of the best ways to improve your foot health is simple: spread your toes. Manual separation, with or without the help of a product, like toe socks, helps to increase circulation in the feet, to properly align the bones, and to strengthen foot muscles.

This video shares another reason why it's important to spread your roots.

It is amazing how important our feet are relative to our general well being!
